We live in a society that teaches us that we need a wedding diet to feel “our best” on our special day & that drives us to do anything & everything to pursue that, so far that we sacrifice our health.
At first, it’s harmless + innocent. You’re excited. Everyone compliments you & you feel great.
But take it from me: it catches up to you before you have time to realize & BOOM… you reach the point of no return. I’m not just saying that. I’ve been there.
I am not denying that it’s certainly important to feel confident + amazing on your wedding day but you shouldn’t hand the power over to your appearance as the determining factor.
What started as an innocent wedding diet almost killed me & today, I know that nothing is more valuable than my health & most importantly, my life.
So here’s to all the things a wedding diet WON’T give you:
A wedding diet doesn’t determine how loved & well-surrounded you feel at your wedding.
A wedding diet doesn’t determine how beautiful you feel.
A wedding diet doesn’t set the tone for the way the most precious day of your life goes.
A wedding diet doesn’t determine how much fun you’ll have & how many memories you’ll create.
A wedding diet doesn’t determine how happy you’ll be in your marriage & the beautiful family + home you’ll build.
A wedding diet doesn’t determine all the love, luck + happiness you’ll feel.
A wedding diet doesn’t pave the way for how the rest of your new beginning will go.
In the grand scheme of things, your wedding diet isn’t worth much & what’s more is it’s not worth everything it takes away from you.
I went on a wedding diet, I lost weight & I thought it made me courageous + accomplished. I thought it was everything but it turns out, the REAL everything else didn’t go as planned.
Today, I’m perfectly content with the way things turned out but I wasn’t always. It took a few years for me to come to terms with my mapped out life + timeline not being all too perfect & to accept that where I am right now is where I need to be for reasons I may or may not be aware of just yet.
But, what hurts me most is seeing people I know + love put themselves through the same thing.
If you’re struggling, always remember: you’re worth more & more beautiful than ANY diet.
