Like any motivation in life, gym motivation doesn’t just appear magically & even when you have it, it doesn’t just always stay the same! It needs to be maintained & the only one who has the power to ensure that it does is YOU!
There will be weeks when you feel so motivated, you’re on fire & others where all you want to do is absolutely nothing & you can hardly recognize the person you were a week ago & that’s perfectly normal!
But how do you reignite the flame & keep the motivation going?! It’s different for everyone because we’re all driven by different goals & long-term healthy lifestyle habits but these are some of the things that work for me.
LOVE WHAT YOU DO!
If you don’t love the workouts in your routine, you won’t be as motivated & inspired to do them & make progress. It’s as simple as that. The human mind is built in a way that it feeds off the things it enjoys, loves & finds passion in & neglects those it deems burdensome, boring or too difficult. Challenge is good but make sure you’re realistic about your goals & that you feel happy when you’re working out! Going to the gym shouldn’t feel like a chore but should be something you look forward to!
CHANGE UP YOUR ROUTINE
Not only will changing up your routine help prevent your body from getting too used to the exercises you do but it’ll also work different muscle groups, challenge you in different ways both physically & mentally, allow you to be more open-minded in & out of the gym & stimulate & excite you in ways you never thought possible!
FIND A GROUP OF PEOPLE WHO UPLIFT YOU + BRING POSITIVITY TO YOUR LIFE
When it’s harder to get to the gym on those less motivating days, it helps to have a group of people to talk to & who can remind you why you started in the first place & just how amazing your progress has been thus far! Sometimes all it takes are a few words of encouragement from people whose opinions you value & love!
Know that there’s always a way up from where you started & to make it up that hill, sometimes you have to be willing to work a little harder & put in more work!
DON’T BE TOO HARD ON YOURSELF + SMILE!
