The other day, I had a ton of fruit for breakfast, so when it came to making my post-workout smoothie, I wanted to make something a little lower in sugar just to balance things out & to not overdo my sugar consumption for the day! That’s where this baby comes in!
The modern American diet is high in foods that lead to acidity, inflammation & even, liver toxicity. Many people are walking around with blood sugar imbalance, yeast overgrowth, candida, gut health issues, crazy sugar cravings & sensitivities. Although natural sugar is better for you than refined counterparts, it’s still important to incorporate alkaline foods to maintain proper pH balance in the body & prevent issues like gas, bloating, constipation, brain fog, mood swings & exhaustion.
I cheated slightly & topped this babe of a smoothie with raspberries because I just needed them, kay?! But, you’ll be surprised when you taste it because it’s SO delicious but literally contains no fruit whatsoever! IMO, it’s hard to put together a smoothie that contains no fruit & still have it taste good. BUT I NAILED IT WITH THIS ONE. Sorry, I don’t mean to brag, but if you try it, you’ll understand why!
If you’re really not one for a fruit-free smoothie or you simply feel like adding some in, I’d go with banana or berries! I think 1/4 to 1/2 a frozen banana or about 1/2 cup frozen mixed berries would work great!
- 1/2 cup homemade vanilla oat milk
- 3/4 cup water
- 1.5 cups fresh spinach
- 1/2 cucumber
- 1/2 tbsp. spirulina
- 1/2 tsp. Ceylon cinnamon
- 1 tsp. yacon syrup
- 1 tbsp. ground flaxseed
- 1/4 cup frozen avocado
- TOPPINGS: Raspberries + hemp hearts
- OPTIONAL ADD-INS: 1/4-1/2 frozen banana or 1/2 cup frozen berries
- Add the ingredients to your blender & blend until combined & smooth.
- Pour, top with your fave toppings & enjoy!
