Today, amidst meal prepping & every other Sunday chore I wanted to get done, I ALMOST forgot to eat. But then the idea for this smoothie came to mind & I couldn’t even believe I could just so dare to forget to eat when THIS was an option, ya feel me? Basically, what I’m trying to say is that this smoothie is freaking delicious.
Before I tell you how to make it, I just want to point out that art cherries are different than sweet cherries. Usually, you’ll find them frozen, not fresh. They have a sour-sweet flavour & they’re the ones most often studied for their health benefits, such as reducing inflammation, improving sleep due to natural melatonin content, speeding up exercise recovery & being full of antioxidants & vitamin C to boost immunity & fight oxidative stress. Make sure you read your packages because it can be easy to mix up dark tart cherries & dark sweet cherries! They’ll often look the same on the packaging & if you don’t read the label carefully, you might just buy the wrong ones inadvertently!
Now, there’s nothing wrong with good ‘ol sweet cherries, but if you’re buying them for the benefits I listed above, you’ll definitely want the tart ones!
This smoothie is SO YUM, creamy, nutritious & contains 2 whole scoops of gut-healing, beauty-boosting & energizing collagen peptides, which also contains tons of amino acids & protein. It’s just the right amount of sweet with a good dose of greens! I topped it with Granolust triple nut crunch granola, which BTW, is heavenly, not to mention super duper uber clean in the ingredients department!
If you want to make this smoothie vegan-friendly, just swap the collagen peptides out for your favourite vegan protein powder. BONUS IF IT’S SPROUTED!
I also added in a teaspoon of ashwagandha just to give the smoothie an extra adaptogen kick & some royal jelly for its immunity-boosting properties, especially with the change of season in full swing right now! Royal jelly is great for skin, gut, immune system & allergies!
- 2 scoops Vital Proteins collagen peptides
- Huge handful fresh spinach
- 3/4 cup dark tart organic cherries (frozen)
- 1 tsp. ashwagandha root powder
- 1/2 cup homemade vanilla cinnamon hemp milk
- 1/2 cup filtered water
- 1/4-1/2 tsp. royal jelly
- TOPPING: Granolust triple nut crunch granola
- Add the ingredients to your blender & blend until smooth & creamy.
- Top with granola & ENJOY! 🙂
