How I Decompress After a Night-Time Workout & Why It’s Important!

If you don’t know, now you know: I WORK OUT A LOT. A big part of my being able to sustain such a jam-packed workout schedule is the fact that I ALWAYS give myself time to refuel & recharge after exercising. While giving it my all during a workout is definitely one of my priorities, the me-time after is just as important!

I think we often underestimate just how much we work our bodies when we exercise & we fail to realize that in the same way that our minds need a break from the hustle & bustle of everyday life sometimes to just disconnect, so do our bodies! This is why I make a point of decompressing after a workout, whether it be morning, mid-day & especially when it’s at night. When I work out at night, I anticipate that I’ll most probably be working out early the next morning, which means if I don’t give my body what it needs to recharge & relax, I probably won’t be able to perform as well the next morning. That’s why I’m SO ADAMANT about this unwinding time!

So what exactly do I do to decompress? It’s quite simple. Nothing too crazy or fancy, just enough for me to feel good, relax & give my body the time it needs to recover & replenish.

REFUEL A.K.A. EATS: An apple with raw organic almond butter drizzled with Ceylon cinnamon is one of my go-to late-night post-workout snacks because it’s got a good balance of good carbs to help with muscle recovery & replenishment for tomorrow’s sweat sesh, healthy fats to fill me up & guarantee a good night’s sleep & protein to rev my metabolism & provide my muscles with the amino acids to build strength while I get my beauty sleep! This snack is also full of fibre, which means I won’t wake up feeling bloated or with indigestion, vitamin E for antioxidants & magnesium for overall health & electrolyte balance. OH & cinnamon > coconut sugar or any other type of sweetener for natural sweetness, heart health, immunity boosting & anti-inflammatory benefits!
