How To Stay On Track When You’re On-The-Go a.k.a. Excuses Only Exist If You Let Them!

Are you using your busy lifestyle as an excuse to give up on your healthy one?

It’s reality: So many of us struggle to maintain healthy eating habits when we’re constantly on-the-go, whether it be because of work, school or busy family life, all of which are demanding & often time-consuming.

A hectic lifestyle makes it tempting for us to forgo healthy eating & to succumb to the fast, easy, but not so healthy alternatives. BUT, what a lot of us fail to realize is that being on-the-go doesn’t have to go hand in hand with not staying on track, eating healthy & making it a lifestyle. The only way that happens is if you let it.

Healthy eating & adopting a healthy lifestyle are long-term commitments that you take upon yourself to better your life & to ultimately become & feel like the best possible version of yourself.

Like any commitment you take on in life, consistency, accountability & trust are ESSENTIAL.

  • Be consistent.

  • Make it a routine.

  • Hold yourself accountable by talking about it to family, friends, colleagues.

  • Trust yourself enough to know that you can & will do it so long as you put your mind to it.

  • Don’t let anyone or anything bring you down.

  • And most importantly, trust the process. Adopting a healthy lifestyle is a challenging process. It’s continuous, progressive & hard but it’s worthwhile.

  • Don’t use your busy life as an excuse to forgo the challenge, to take away from that continuity, to stagnate or to take the easy route.

Here are some tips to stay on track when you’re on-the-go!

  1. Meal-prep over the weekend so you have quick & easy meal solutions for work lunches, as well as late dinners after long days where the easy alternative is to go for take-out (Take-out is obviously okay every once in a while & in moderation, but don’t abuse of it!).

  2. Make your own pre-packaged snacks, such as almonds, cashews, dried fruit, protein/energy bites, healthy cookies/muffins, chopped up veggies with hummus or pesto etc.

  3. Smoothie it up! Smoothies are a delicious & easy way to get in a great balance of healthy fats, carbs, protein & natural sweetness!

  4. If you’re buying food on-the-go, try to go for the healthier choice. Try your best to stay away from packaged processed foods, which are low in nutrient value & full of chemicals & additives.

  5. Take your time, no matter how busy you are. Give yourself that YOU-TIME to sit & eat your lunch/dinner & genuinely enjoy it & savour it!

  6. Eat regularly. Skipping meals or depriving yourself can lead to unhealthy late night snacking (& when that does happen? go for healthy options!)

  7. ALWAYS EAT BREAKFAST! It’s the most important meal of the day so make it freaking count. Take it on the go, if you must (smoothies, sprouted toast with nut butter, muffins, protein balls etc. are all great ideas!). A big hearty breakfast fuels your body for the day!
