Why Life’s Greatest Gift: “Choice”, Can Transform Your Life.
“But I had, no choice”, right?
We ALWAYS have a choice.
Although sometimes it can be the hardest thing in the world to do, having a choice & having control over our body & mind is the greatest gift of life.
Every minute of every single day, we make simple basic choices without even noticing.
Yogurt over eggs.
Heels over flats.
Getting out of bed over sleeping in.
Coffee over tea.
Netflix over partying.
But sometimes, the choices we are faced with are more serious because they entail something far more important than a cup of hot coffee or a bowl of Greek yogurt.
Sometimes, they are life-altering decisions that require us to step out of our comfort zones & sometimes, they affect others.
Yes, it’s true: We can’t choose or control the things others do or say, but we can choose HOW WE REACT & RESPOND to those things.
We also don’t always choose every circumstance we find ourselves in (If we did, life would be perfect & there would be no room for self-improvement), but we can choose how we DEAL WITH THEM.
“We can let the circumstances of our lives harden us so that we become increasingly resentful & afraid or we can let them soften us & make us kinder. We always have the choice.” – Dalai Lama.
My eating disorder made me:
Made me believe I had no choice.
Anorexia threw me into a world of helplessness.
Overtime, I learned that the more helpless I let myself believe I was, the more I became unable to take action to CHANGE my situation.
When I mustered up the courage to TAKE ACTION, I made the choice to be PROACTIVE & TO TAKE OWNERSHIP for changing what was destroying my body & my mind & ultimately, what was slowly KILLING ME.
I realized that my future belonged to the choices I MADE.
I was afraid of the unknown, of what my life had reserved for me in a world without ED & I let that fear freeze me.
But, in reality, everything in life has an element of “unknown”, even the choices that lead to a so-called “guaranteed” outcome because in life, nothing ever goes 100% as planned.
Life is never certain.
So, I trusted my instincts.
I had faith in my choices & stood by them (even when it got tough).
I chose to turn my difficult circumstances into something positive that helped me grow & ultimately, recover.
Choice has the power to transform your life & I’m living proof of that everyday.
AND If you just so happen to make a “wrong”choice along the way…
Learn, grow & get wiser from it.
But move forward knowing that at least you took control & CHOSE TO TAKE CHARGE OF YOUR LIFE.
You become a better YOU with each choice that you make, whether it’s the “right” or “wrong” one.
CHOOSE TO TAKE THAT LEAP OF FAITH.
YOU’LL BE THANKFUL YOU DID.
