Kelly’s Maca Cacao Mid-Morning (Aphrodisiac!) Energy Boost Smoothie a.k.a. The-Smoothest-Silkiest-Ever-Superfood-Blend-That’s-Easy-Like-Sunday-Morning!!
HAPPY END-OF-SUNDAY FUNDAY. But, do not despair!
Tomorrow is, FOR ONCE IN OUR LIVES, A HAPPY MONDAY! (That is if you’re in Canada, #sorrynotsorry!). Why’s that? UH, need I remind you that Canada just turned 150 years old? THAT BAE MUST BE CONSUMING LOADS OF MACA IF SHE LIVED THIS LONG…
No, but seriously, HAPPY LONG WEEKEND, MY LOVES! And, since you get to sleep in (AGAIN!) tomorrow, I have the perfect smoothie for you to get your morning ENERGY fuel (When you finally decide to hop out of bed, YES, EVEN IF IT’S AT NOON!), as well as a BUNCH OF HEALTH BENEFITS FROM THE SUPERFOODS IN THIS BABY.
And I don’t know about you munchkins but a smoothie full of REAL SUPERFOODS NEVER FAILS TO PUT ME IN A GOOD MOOD, with plenty of energy & a positive up-beat ready-to-tackle-the-day attitude!
So here’s how this babe of a smoothie was born! I always like to give you guys a bit of background information, you know, all the “behind the scenes” stuff that goes down in my kitch (NO, I’m not a celeb. I’m not talking about backstage stuff). I’m talkin’ about the messy kitchen table sitch, spices everywhere, spatulas flying, mixing bowls EVERYWHERE, measuring spoons coming out of I don’t know where & well, BLENDERS BLENDIN’!
ANYWHO, all that to say, today, for my mid-morning snack, I was craving something chocolate-y BUT I also needed something that would give me a little boost of energy to hold me off until lunchtime! (HEY, a girl in recovery gets freaking hungry, SORRY NOT SORRY!). And, it had been a while since I whipped up some sort of smoothie concoction & so, I put my mind to the challenge & came up with this baby!
Ladies & gents, I present you with Kelly’s Maca Cacao Mid-Morning (Aphrodisiac!) Energy Boost Smoothie a.k.a. The-Smoothest-Ever-Superfood-Blend-That’s-Easy-Like-Sunday-Morning!!
Super delicious, super simple & super adaptable.
Throw in some berries, peanut butter, honey, chocolate chips – THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS, so do whatever floats your boats, babies! (OH & if you put a little bit less almond milk, you’ll end up with a thicker smoothie, something like a CHOCOLATE MILKSHAKE & then you can justify having this babe for dessert too!)
BUT WAIT, that’s just the basic stuff about this baby.
Let’s talk about how this babe of a smoothie is also an APHRODISIAC (ergo, THINGS THAT HELP BOOST YOUR SEX DRIVE. TMI? SORRY NOT SORRY!). Is anyone else (besides me, of course) fascinated by EDIBLE APHRODISIACS? I mean… I’m talking avocados, yogurt, figs, asparagus, bananas, oysters, pomegranates, salmon, almonds, walnut, chilli peppers, honey, watermelon & strawberries. TBH, THE LIST GOES ON.
BUT ALSO ON THAT LIST IS… MACA!
Honestly, the science behind food, brain & body is freaking WONDERFUL, BUT OFTEN OVERLOOKED (because we are simply too busy to care!!). But, if we take a breather here & there & pay attention to the nourishment we put in our bodies, WE CAN GET FREAKING HELLA COZY WITH FOOD ON A WHOLE ANOTHER DELICIOUSLY SENSUAL LEVEL. That’s where I am in my life right now, my loves & since you munchkins may not have the time, THAT’S WHAT I’M HERE FOR. TO KEEP YOU IN THE LOOP. & TO MAKE YOU FALL IN LOVE WITH ALL KINDS OF NEW, GOOD-FOR-YOU FOODS (& not only that, but to concoct some insanely-yummy recipes containing those foods to fill your tummies!).
AND SO, what gives this smoothie not only its aphrodisiac quality, BUT ALSO ITS ENERGY BOOST? My loves, this is not just a chocolate smoothie. THIS IS A RAW COCOA & MACA SMOOTHIE! And, as I mentioned earlier, MACA IS A NATURAL APHRODISIAC. & wait… get this! Scientists & nutritionists have also hinted at the idea that cacao (& chocolate) are ALSO APHRODISIACS! This hasn’t been proven, SO WE’RE NOT SURE IF CACAO IS A LEGIT APHRODISIAC, BUT I MEAN… MACA + CHOCOLATE… HOW CAN IT NOT BE?! And well, if it isn’t, don’t worry, MACA HAS YOUR BACK!
OH & also, if cacao doesn’t make the aphrodisiac boat, DO NOT PANIC, MY LOVES. Cacao is an antioxidant powerhouse, with more antioxidants per weight than BLUEBERRIES (which are known as like THE REFERENCE IN ANTIOXIDANTS!). SO, this babe is a great stepping-stone for you to learn to SIMPLY ADORE maca & start incorporating it into your diet so you can reap all its benefits!
OH RIGHT, this is not a complete Kelly in the Kitch post without a rant about the benefits of AT LEAST one of the ingredients in this babe. AND SO, WITHOUT FURTHER ADO, let’s talk about all the health benefits of none other than, MACA (HINT: SEX! OOPS, TMI!).

NOW, what else makes up this babe of a smoothie? I don’t wanna give too much away ‘cause I love keeping you munchkins guessing, but I’m talkin’ banana, almond butter, almond milk, vanilla, sea salt, raw cocoa powder & cinnamon (Totally optional if you’re not into this yumminess!
P.S. Sidenote, why do so many people have a cinnamon aversion? I just don’t get it!.
ANYWHO my loves, this babe is ENERGY-BOOSTING, ANTI-INFLAMMATORY, DELICIOUS, CHOCOLATEY, CLEAN AF & PACKED with potassium, fibre, protein & GOOD-FOR-YOU HEALTHY FATS!
So without further ado, LET’S WHIP (OR SHOULD I SAY, BLEND) HER UP!
My loves, YOU WILL NEED:
- 1 medium banana!
- 1 tbsp. of raw organic almond butter (peanut butter or cashew butter will work too!)
- 1 cup of unsweetened vanilla (or original) almond or cashew milk;
- ½ tsp. of pure organic vanilla extract;
- 2 tsp. of raw maca root powder;
- 1 tbsp. of raw cacao powder;
- 1/8 – ¼ tsp. of ground cinnamon;
- A pinch of sea salt!
- Throw in some ice if you wish (I recommend blending this baby without the ice first, then checking the texture/consistency & then YOU BE THE JUDGE!).
AND NOW, for like the EASIEST HOW-TO EVER:
- Add all ingredients to your blender and blend until CREAMY, SILKY, SMOOTH & GORGEOUSLY PERFECT!
- P.S. Add more or less almond milk for texture/consistency based on preference & THROW IN SOME ICE IF YOU WISH!
