A Breakdown of All (Well, Most) of the Skincare Benefits of Organic Cold-Pressed Rosehip Oil a.k.a. A-Freaking-Miracle-&-a-Half-That-Will-Make-You-Glow-Sans-Making-a-Hole-in-Your-Wallet!

Hi lovies!

<3

Rise & shine AND HAPPY SUNDAY FUNDAY! 🙂

AS PROMISED (as you can see, I do have a tendency to keep ‘em!), this is my post about all the amazing benefits of none other than… ROSEHIP OIL!

In a nutshell, rosehip oil is a remarkable NATURAL product, loaded with tons of BEAUTY-BOOSTING antioxidants, nutrients & vitamins (such as, vitamin A, C, E, D, & B-Carotene, & the essential fatty acids omega-3 & omega-6), which provide amazing skin rejuvenating properties, protect the skin & increase cell turnover. It has actually been used for AGES by the Andean Indians of Chile who recognized years ago that it had exceptional healing skincare & hair care benefits! I guess they were A BIT AHEAD OF THE GAME, to say the least.

As you can probably assume, rosehip oil is derived from the seeds of a specific variety of rose, Rosa aff rubiginosa, which is the fruit left behind from the seeds of rose bushes. Basically, by using a cold-press extraction process, the oil is separated from the hips & seeds TO BECOME A FREAKING MIRACLE SKINCARE SOLUTION!

If we want to get real technical here, rosehip oil’s healing properties are a product of its chemical structure. It is rich in essential fatty acids, but more specifically, oleic, palmitic, linoleic & gamma linoleic acid (GLA), as well as EFA (essential fatty acids, a.k.a. omega-3 & omega-6), and when absorbed through the skin, these fatty acids convert to PGEs (prostaglandins), which are involved in cellular membrane & tissue regeneration & can provide overall anti-aging benefits!

NOW, LET’S GET MORE SPECIFIC! I’m about to break down all (well, wait, I’m sure I don’t know ALL THE BENEFITS BECAUSE THIS STUFF IS JUST SO FREAKING AWESOME) a heck of a lot of the benefits of this magic I like to call MY ROSEHIP!

(1) SKIN REJUVENATION

The vitamin A content in Rosehip oil is known to promote healthy skin cell rejuvenation, which causes skin to glow & appear FRESH-AF & supple. The rejuvenation works on normal skin but also on skin damaged by scarring, acne or the sun! Rosehip therefore gives a beautiful & very natural glow to the skin by not only helping to smooth fine lines & wrinkles, but also by evening up your skin tone!

(2) PIGMENT REDUCTION

The vitamin C content in this baby reduces the appearance of dark spots, stretch marks, aging spots & hyper-pigmentation. Basically, the antioxidants found in rosehip combat free radicals that cause sun damage, while the vitamin A, combined with the oil’s essential fatty acids, can help improve skin tone, texture & pigmentation.

(3) IMPROVED COMPLEXION

If you suffer from dryness or eczema, the essential fatty acids found in rosehip oil will calm & moisturize your skin & promote skin regeneration! This is because essential fatty acids are emollients, which improve the skin’s flexibility & permeability & help the skin repair itself! AND, the vitamin A content of rosehip also plays a role here given that it has the ability to improve skin texture & tone.

(4) MOISTURE RETENTION

Rosehip oil packs a powerful punch of moisture for dry skin, which can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles! AND, unlike a lot of other oils, the smooth & light texture of rosehip oil is unlikely to clog your pores! Basically, given its high content of essential fatty acids, rosehip is THE PERFECT SKIN HYDRATION TOOL!

(5) ANTI-AGING PROPERTIES

This benefit comes from the antioxidants & the oil’s ability to penetrate into deeper layers of the skin. OH & vitamins C & A stimulate collagen production. Since vitamin A has small molecules, it allows deeper penetration into the skin & improves the skin’s moisture levels, ergo, reducing wrinkles & fine lines!

A.K.A. BUH-BYE BOTOX. HELLO ROSEHIP! HELLO ELASTICITY!

OKAY & on a totally unrelated note to skincare (BUT STILL CRUCIAL TO MENTION), because rosehip oil is one of the best sources of vitamin C & since vitamin C helps fight off infection & boost the immune system, rosehip oil makes for an amazing option to keep the immune system strong. AND WELL, IF THAT’S NOT ENOUGH, ASIDE FROM BEING AN ANTIOXIDANT, VITAMIN C IS ALSO RESPONSIBLE FOR COLLAGEN PRODUCTION in the body, which is an important element in bone & muscle structure!

AND NOW, FOR SOME KELLY-IN THE-KITCH TIPS & TRICKS regarding buying, storing & using & abusing this babe of an oil?

Although it is a bit more expensive, cold-pressed rosehip oil is BEST because it has not been altered by heat & therefore, it retains more nutrients.

Since rosehip is classified as dry oil, it will absorb very quickly into the skin! You can apply it directly to the face using gentle, massaging motions or use it in other skincare recipes, i.e. add it to your moisturizer or your face masks!

If possible, try to store your rosehip oil in a cool, dark location OR in the fridge, to help prevent rancidity.

Rosehip oil is used in TONS & I MEAN, TONS, of beauty products, but can be found in its pure form (COLD-PRESSED, PLEASE!) in most health food stores! (Notice that the babe will always be stored in dark bottles given that over-exposure to the light can reduce the potency of its ingredients).

Rosehip can prevent & reduce acne scars, BUT SHOULD NOT BE APPLIED DIRECTLY TO ACTIVE ACNE!

If you find that rosehip oil is too heavy for your skin, try adding one or two drops of it to your usual skin moisturizers.

AND, if you have oily skin, make sure to test an area first to ensure that the oil does not clog your pores, causing unwanted flare-ups.

Last, but not least? Since rosehip is a dry oil, meaning that it absorbs quickly without leaving an oily skin residue, it is best for normal to dry skin users!

Recommended brands?

As you all know, I use the Divine Essence Organic Cold-Pressed Rosehip Oil. You can get it at Tau Supermarket or Health Tree Organic Food Store, both of which are in DDO. Those two stores are where I’ve bought it in the past, but rosehip oil is generally quite easy to find & I’m sure you can pick it up at most, if not all, natural & organic grocery stores in your area!

I have also heard that the one by Now Foods is pretty legit, as well as the one by Sukiri.

TBH, AS LONG AS YOUR ROSEHIP OIL IS ORGANIC & COLD-PRESSED, you cannot go wrong!!!!

& PLEASE DO NOT BE SHY! FEEL FREE TO MESSAGE ME IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS BABE BEFORE/AFTER BUYING IT! 🙂

XOXO! <3 <3 <3
